Revolutionizing Game Design: Auctoria Uses Generative AI to Create Stunning Video Game Models

Are you tired of spending countless hours manually creating video game assets? Well, your frustration may soon be a thing of the past. Introducing Auctoria, a groundbreaking platform developed by Aleksander Caban, that utilizes generative AI to automatically generate 3D video game models. Whether you’re a professional game developer or a passionate creator, Auctoria aims to revolutionize the way you design game environments. In this article, we’ll delve into the features and benefits of Auctoria and explore how it can unleash your limitless creativity.

Several years ago, Aleksander Caban, co-founder of Carbon Studio, a Polish VR game developer, identified a significant challenge in contemporary game design. He found himself manually crafting fundamental elements like rocks, hills, paths, and more within video game environments. This process was not only time-consuming but also labor-intensive.

Caban made the strategic decision to develop technology aimed at automating this labor-intensive process. To achieve this vision, he joined forces with Michal Bugała, Joanna Zając, and his fellow Carbon Studio co-founders, Karolina Koszuta and Błażej Szaflik. Together, they established Auctoria, a groundbreaking platform that leverages AI to generate 3D video game assets from the ground up.

“We founded Auctoria driven by an unyielding passion for boundless creativity,” Zając said. “Our mission was to provide invaluable support to game development professionals, but we also wanted to make it accessible to anyone with a creative spark. We noticed a gap in the market where most advanced tools catered to hobbyists and amateurs, leaving professionals underserved. Auctoria aims to disrupt this paradigm.”

Auctoria harnesses the power of generative AI technology to create a diverse array of model types tailored for video games. Among its impressive features, the platform can generate entire 3D game levels, complete with player pathways (albeit of a fairly basic nature). Additionally, it offers the capability to transform uploaded images and textures of walls, floors, and columns into their 3D counterparts, seamlessly bridging the gap between 2D artwork and 3D environments.

Users can leverage Auctoria’s versatile functionality by entering text prompts, akin to the processes of DALL-E 2 or Midjourney, to effortlessly generate assets. Alternatively, they have the option to provide a sketch, and the platform will diligently endeavor to transform it into a fully usable digital model.

Auctoria's Generative AI for Video Game Models

Zając proudly asserts that every AI algorithm propelling Auctoria and the data employed to train these algorithms were meticulously developed in-house. She emphasizes the platform’s autonomy, stating that Auctoria stands as an entirely independent tool, devoid of reliance on external engines or open source solutions.

Auctoria isn’t alone in the emerging landscape of AI tools for generating game assets. Competitors like 3DFY, Scenario, Kaedim, Mirage, and Hypothetic are also offering 3D model creation platforms. Established players including Nvidia and Autodesk are venturing into this space with apps like Get3D, which transforms images into 3D models, and ClipForge, which generates models based on text descriptions.

Moreover, Meta and OpenAI have explored similar technologies for crafting 3D assets in response to prompts. This intense competition is unsurprising, considering the immense potential of this market, which is projected to reach a value of $3.57 billion by 2028, according to Proficient Market Insights.

According to Zając, Auctoria’s relatively lengthy development cycle, spanning approximately two years in the R&D stage, has yielded a more robust and comprehensive toolset compared to some competitors. She highlighted that there’s currently a scarcity of AI-based software capable of generating complete 3D world models. Existing solutions mainly revolve around 3D editors and plugins, but they pale in comparison to Auctoria’s capabilities. The team initiated Auctoria’s development two years ago, which has enabled them to deliver a ready-to-use product with extensive functionality.

Naturally, like many generative AI startups, Auctoria will face the legal complexities surrounding AI-generated content, particularly the unclear copyright status of such works in the United States. However, for the time being, the Auctoria team, consisting of seven employees and the five co-founders, is deferring the resolution of these legal questions. Instead, they’re directing their efforts toward establishing partnerships with game development studios, including Carbon Studio, co-founded by Caban himself, to initiate tooling pilot programs.

In preparation for Auctoria’s upcoming public release in the coming months, the company aims to secure up to $5 million in funding to expedite the development of essential back-end cloud services required for platform scalability.

Zając explained, “This funding would significantly reduce the overall computation time needed for world or 3D model creation with Auctoria. It encompasses both the creation of infrastructure for a software-as-a-service model and enhancements to the user experience, such as simplifying onboarding with an intuitive UI, and delivering exceptional customer service and marketing experiences. While we intend to keep our core team lean, we plan to expand our workforce with a few additional employees by the end of the year.”

Here are some additional thoughts on the potential impact of Auctoria on the game development industry:

* Auctoria could democratize game development by making it easier for anyone with a creative spark to create their own games.

* Auctoria could help game developers to create more immersive and engaging game worlds by reducing the time and effort required to create assets.

* Auctoria could help game developers to iterate on their game designs more quickly and easily.

* Auctoria could help game developers to create more diverse and inclusive games by providing them with a wider range of assets to choose from.

Overall, Auctoria is a promising new platform with the potential to revolutionize the game development industry. It will be exciting to see how the platform evolves and how it is used by game developers to create new and innovative games.

Conclusion:

Auctoria, a groundbreaking platform that leverages generative AI to automatically generate 3D video game models, poised to revolutionize the game development industry. With its diverse features and capabilities, Auctoria empowers game developers to unleash their boundless creativity and streamline the development process.

As Auctoria prepares for its public release in the coming months, the company is poised to disrupt the emerging landscape of AI-powered game asset creation tools. Its comprehensive toolset, autonomy, and focus on complete 3D world models set Auctoria apart from its competitors.
